MISSION VIEJO, Calif., March 21, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — The board of directors of South County Trojans Elite Youth Football announced today that the University of Southern California has agreed to sponsor a red carpet, exclusive-access event that represents a once-in-a-lifetime experience for South County Trojans’ players, siblings, parents and coaches on Aug. 31, 2019 when the USC football season opens against the Fresno State Bulldogs.
This game is not only the USC Trojans’ season opener, but it also represents the first USC football game to be played in the newly renovated Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum following the completion of a $300 million renovation to the historic sports stadium. The iconic sports stadium opened in 1923 and will become the only venue in the world to have hosted the Summer Olympics three times, in 1932, 1984 and in 2028.
“The South County Trojans’ family is extremely grateful to USC for extending this exciting opportunity to our newly formed elite youth football chapter,” said Chad Johnson, chairman of the South County Trojans’ board and head football coach of Mission Viejo High School. “This event will undoubtedly be a highlight in the lives of the South County Trojans’ players and families that will not be forgotten.”
The opening day festivities will begin with two 45-foot busses on the Coliseum premises for a chapter-wide tailgate and BBQ. Two hours prior to kick-off, the entire South County Trojans’ chapter and family members will be escorted into the first two seating rows of the Coliseum, where all players and siblings will be gathered and further escorted onto the field and positioned on the opposing hash-marks near the end-zone. The USC Trojans’ football team will simultaneously be arriving in team busses, running through the Coliseum tunnel, and then through a “human tunnel” comprised of the South County Trojans as they greet, encourage, and high-five the USC players and coaches prior to kick-off.
Following the co-mingled activities on the field, the youth chapter families will be given a short-form, guided tour of the breathtaking USC campus in order to provide the athletes and their siblings a truly elite college game-day experience.
