IT Employment Ticks Down

<>

ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 14, 2019 — In February, IT employment ticked down .06% to 5,346,500 jobs, according to TechServe Alliance, the national trade association of the IT & Engineering Staffing and Solutions industry. On a year-over-year basis, IT employment grew by 0.27% since February 2018 adding 14,300 IT workers.

Engineering employment increased by 0.17 percent sequentially to 2,643,800. On a year-over-year basis, growth in engineering employment increased by 2.51% since February 2018 or 64,700 engineering workers.

“After limping into January with anemic growth, IT employment actually retreated in February declining by 3,100 jobs,” observed Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance.  “While those who are adept at sourcing and recruiting scarce talent will continue to fare well, we are leaving significant opportunities for growth on the table due to the limited domestic talent supply and wrong-headed immigration policies,” added Roberts.
